A 19th century Srilankan heavily carved sandalwood box. The sides are typically deeply carved with floral and vegetal patterns intermingled with typical animal and traditional hunting scenes. On a closer look, the attire of the carved hunters betray that they wear pseudo-western dress.

The box cover itself overtly depicting a European lady on a bicycle clearly indicates that this box was undoubtedly made for the western market and might even possibly have been commissioned as a gift to a British or European lady. It is noteworthy to point out that the lady humorously rests her hand on the frame for support.
