A 17th Century Mughal North Indian bronze vase, Punjab or Kanatak.

This vase consists of a voluminous bulbous base with flaring neck. The solid bronze base is what first catches the eye with its characteristically decorated middle row of raised points de diamants motifs, with alternating ridged almond shapes above and below.

The neck of the vase on the other hand, is simple and chased in a dodecahedral pattern. The vase sits on a projected rim.

These Mughal bronze items were normally attributed to the Deccan region, but recent literature shows that they might also have originated from the Punjab area.

An almost identical item is published in: Mark Zebrowski, Gold, Silver & Bronze from Mughal India, page 189.
