An 18th – 19th century Ottoman jade gemset nargila mouthpiece (ağizlık).

The jade body is carved and inlaid with soft high grade gold wire in the form of meandering floral patterns with intermittant flowers set with small irregularly faceted garnets or spinels.

The thin gold wire is reticulated in the usual Ottoman manner of similar natural stone gemset objects.

Mouthpieces such as these were considered objects of luxury, owned only by affluent members of the Turkish society during that period.
