A group of 17th Century North Indian Chiselled Steel Shield Bosses, Deccan – India.

A fine complete set of 4 central steel chiselled Deccani shield bosses with their culminating crescent. The elegant design of the 4 bosses consist of a central raised floral motif radiating axially on two perpendicular axes, ending in each extremity with 2 pairs of different flower types. Rotated in between these two pairs of flowers are vegetal motifs thus forming an implicit abstract octagon.

The culminating element on the shield would be the crescent, it is crafted in the same manner as the four bosses, and is decorated with a meandering alternating decoration of the floral and vegetal motifs used in the 4 bosses.
