A Varied Collection of 9th and 10th Century Ivory and Bone Gaming Pieces, Egypt & East Persia.

This collection of 16 chess and other gaming pieces have different forms: some are cylindrical, others waisted, and many bulbous domical. They are variously decorated with dots and circles or incised with bands. A few are dyed.

Although not a set in itself, the beauty of this early collection is evident from the proximity in design and manufacture of items made for the same purpose, yet, coming from two important different Muslim cultural centres, namely: Egypt and Persia.
