A Ghurid Carved Inlaid large Terracotta Panel, 13th Century, Herat.

This early rectangular terracotta panel is an excellent well preserved example of 13th Century Herat work. It consists of symmetrically designed split palmettes inlaid with turquoise wing-shaped faince work. Two trefoil shaped leaves between the split palmette motifs are similarly inlaid but with triangular dark cobalt blue patterns.

The condition is remarkable despite a damaged corner of the panel as very few of these tiles survive with their inlay
