A Calligraphic Qajar Ceramic Tile, 19th Century -Iran.

An intact Qajar period Islamic tile with white calligraphy of the “_basmala_” (In the Name of Allah the All Merciful and Compassionate) interlaced within a lemon yellow vegetal and floral design, and contrasting against a dark navy blue field. The border of the tile is a rectilinear frame in lemon and azure blue. The glaze of this ceramic tile is crackled due to the firing process.
