A fine Ilkhanid lustre star tile,  Kashan, Persia, probably 13th century.

This intact tile is of stellar form, its centre is decorated with a strong lustre depiction of a flower as the crux of a series of interlaced octagonal cobalt blue highlighted designs echoing the octagonal shape of the tile itself.  Leafy foliage insets are designed within the cobalt geometric borders.

The tile border consists of a typical fine naskh inscription running along between two thin cobalt edges of stellar form.

21 cm at its widest point.
