A Mughal Indian dagger with Nilgai shaped jade hilt. The single edged blade of black wootz (a pioneering steel alloy developed in Southern India) is connected to the jade hilt by a steel collar inlaid with floral sprays and vegetal gold wire thread.

The eyes of the Nilgai are elegantly inset with two small cabochon rubies. It is worth noting that the Nilgai (otherwise known asthe blue bull) is the largest Asian antelope in the Indian subcontinent. The dagger is withouth a sheath.
