A splendid Ottoman example of one of a small group of surviving 17th-18th century jade and gem-set silver gilt boxes.

This exceptional hexagonal casket approx 14.5cm in diameter and 12.5cm tall is carried on alternating six narrow pedestals ending with palm-like footrests. The elaborate top comprises of a single piece of jade intricately carved, then inset with collared precious and semi precious stones on a typical Ottoman sweeping silvergilt interlaced split palmette pattern. The lid is surmounted by a central globular jade finial with a deep green beryl cabochon.

Each of the six richly decorated and gem-set sides of the body vary in their design, yet all share in their reliance on octagonal star shaped and stylized Ottoman Chintamani patterns. The inset stones include beryls, spinels, pink saphires, amethysts, citrines, pearls, and turquoises, among others.

The condition is perfect.
