A Splendid Early Bidri Dish, Deccan – India. Circa 1720.

This intracately inlaid silver Bidri dish is an excellent example of early 18th Century inlay work coming from Bidar, Deccan region. It consists of a central circular design with an eight sided petal at its centre. Beyond the central bordered pattern, an array of floral patterns increasing in size is designed in a double spiral sunflower design. The dish ends with a raised flaring rim with interlaced floral and vegetal patterns. The quality of this Bidri work is spectacular, and the contrast of the inlay work as opposed to the dark field is stunning.
